We experienced an earthquake on the usually still, unwavering East Coast this afternoon. DOMAHOKA headquarters swayed back and forth, as we stood frozen, not certain what was happening. An unexpected, strong gust of wind? The unwieldy foundation of an old building? A super, mega-subway bullet train that was going 60+ miles per minute? It was a rare, uncharacteristic 5.8 magnitude quake. The earth shifting; trembling, unsettling, but fortunately, not catastrophic.
The end of summer is fast approaching. The weather is turning and the days are growing shorter, with cool night breezes that induce goosebumps and teeth chattering. Bare toes are so ready to cozy up to warm, woolen socks. The sun still shines brightly but the air smells different. Living above a bakery, it ideally smells like baked apples to us, heavy on the cinnamon. We’re slowing down the roll of our iced chai lattes, and instead, are warming up to the idea of scalding hot Sumatran coffee and endless, steaming cups of Earl Grey tea. The seasons are shifting.
As the shop comes to a quiet close for now, our blog will open up to new and exciting possibilities. We are looking forward to sharing ideas, spotlighting inspiring people, and taking you along with us on field trips, here and there. We will also be creating things. We have no concrete plans for DOMAHOKA, other than it transforming into a personal space for us to explore, to learn, and to have fun. We are shifting.
This space is shifting.
